Simulator Crane Controls…Why GlobalSim?

Simulator Crane Controls

There are a number of different hardware configurations for professional crane simulators. One feature which distinguishes a high-end simulator from a low-end simulator is the controls. Crane simulator provide two valuable experiences for beginning crane operators. One is to understand what the joysticks, buttons and switches do. The other is to practice the actual movements to become expertly skilled at operating the crane.

A budget solution for crane controls is to simplify the controls, use less expensive components or even use video game joysticks. Some companies even use touch panel displays to substitute for the real switches and buttons. These types of controls can save money but these low-cost solutions do not provide a “real world” experience.

GlobalSim’s premium simulators use the same buttons, switches, and joysticks that are found on real cranes. For example, an industrial grade crane joystick may cost US$1000 where a video game joystick will cost about US$50. The control sets are designed with high-end components in a layout similar to most cranes of a given model. They are designed to be easily exchanged for another type of crane controls. For example, changing the controls from STS crane controls to RTG controls takes less than a minute.

Alternatively, GlobalSim can make custom controls with seats and layouts that match your specific crane. An example with exact control set and a Merford Seat is shown below.

GlobalSim’s top of the line crane controls really make the difference in your crane simulator training. They allow trainees to feel as though they are having a “real world” crane experience. To learn more about GlobalSim remote controls, contact us at +1-801-890-1940.
