Chattogong Port Authority (CPA), previously named Chittagram Port Authority, is a government agency of Bangladesh responsible for the management, maintenance and governance of the country’s major port of Chattogram, located in the city of Chattogram on the Karnaphuli River nine nautical miles from the shore of the Bay of Bengal. The CPA is part of the Ministry of Shipping. The port was established at its present location in 1887. By 1910, four jetties were constructed to handle 0.5 million MT of cargo annually. Since then the port has grown gradually to the present shape of 118 million MT of cargo handling in the FY of 2021-2022. Chattogram Port is considered the heart of the economy of Bangladesh. As a gateway of Bangladesh, Chattogram Port handles 92% of the country’s international trade. The Port is a regular member of Japan based International Ports and Harbours (IAPH).
